How Makupenda was born

Makupenda was born in 2014 thanks to the intuition of Martina, the brand's founder, who was passionate about accessories and jewelry, or, more accurately, "zagarelli" – a Calabrian dialect term her grandmother affectionately used to describe the odds and ends filling her house – but always with a smile.

Since then, what was a personal love has transformed into a professional project: an idea meticulously crafted in every aspect, where each piece is chosen with attention, precision, and an unmistakable style.

In Calabrian dialect, one would say Martina is a "picatusa" person: scrupulous, meticulous, attentive to every nuance. Every earring, bag, bracelet, hat, or scarf in the store is selected with a single criterion: to evoke emotions, enhance the wearer's identity, and offer a touch of authentic beauty.

 

Our Values

For Makupenda, an accessory is never "just a detail." It's what tells us who we are, what makes us feel more confident, more free to express ourselves. It's an act of self-care. For this reason, each "zagarello" is more than an accessory; it's a way of presenting oneself to the world.

Makupenda's philosophy is also reflected in its communication: lighthearted, ironic, never superficial. Just as Italo Calvino wrote:

“Take life lightly, for lightness is not superficiality, but rather hovering over things from above, not having boulders in your heart.”

The physical and online store

Makupenda has a physical store where every customer comes in to browse and often leaves with a smile.

The online shop was created from the desire to bring that same enthusiasm beyond geographical boundaries, conveying – even through a screen – the same care, energy, joy, and a touch of madness felt in the store!
